The October Edition of axn Australian National Gay Magazine features US photographer Justin Monroe's images from his debut photography book, Down The Rabbit Hole.

Down the Rabbit Hole is basically the story of my life,” Monroe tells AXN.
“I am like Alice falling into an undiscovered world, like a voyager seeking answers, yet coming to the realisation that the answers I seek are subject to change without notice. Nothing is ever really what it seems, especially down the rabbit hole.”

Famed as an artist with a unique style and vision, Monroe set out to push the boundaries, challenging himself to see how far he could break them.
In composing his scenes, everything was fair game. Crucifixes, nudity, bondage, fairytales – you name it. It’s a pop-cultural caravan filled with a band of scoundrels and deviants.
“We set out to create an environment where nothing is sacred and everything is questioned,” he says. “I absolutely did not just want another male physique pictorial.
Down the Rabbit Hole was conceptually perfect – it gave me the platform to go crazy in this sinful circus of transsexuals, porn stars, werewolfs, evil queens, a very dirty bunny, and yes, some really super hot guys.
We wanted it to be an in-your-face mind trip, so correct casting was crucial.”

Among those featured are US transsexual Amanda Lepore and caustic TV star, Janice Dickinson.
“Taboos completely turn me on. I want my work to be ever-changing, and be remembered without any concern for being politically correct.
I have always been attracted to anything extreme, like a kick in the balls. I believe if I get a charge out of a scene, an image or particular person, so will the viewers. My motto has always been, ‘Go hard or go home’.”
Down The Rabbit Hole is published by Bruno Gmunder.
